About Me

Biography:
Isaac Gibson is a composer, researcher, and sound designer based in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Holding a PhD from Queen's University Belfast's Sonic Arts Research Centre (SARC), his practice spans sonic arts, immersive audio, sound design for theatre and film, and electronic music production. He also lectures in music technology at SARC, where he continues to be an active part of the research community.
His doctoral research explored the use of personalised immersive audio experiences to support mental health and quality of life in palliative care, work that has been published internationally and presented at conferences across Europe. A British Council Fellowship brought him to the Venice Biennale in 2024 as a representative of SARC, and his research has been recognised with numerous awards and competitive funding across both academic and creative contexts.
As a composer and sound designer, Isaac has contributed to over 40 productions across the UK, Ireland, and Europe, with a practice that encompasses theatrical sound design, short film composition, and spatial sound installation. He brings a particular sensitivity to how sound shapes experience and emotion, whether in an intimate care setting or on a public stage.
Under the alias Gibsun, he is also an active producer and DJ, releasing electronic and ambient music with a focus on spatial and textural sound, and performing across club, festival, and arts contexts.

Isaac has secured over £50,000 in cumulative funding through grants, competitions, charitable trusts, and entrepreneurial initiatives.
